Interview with: Dawn Marie
In June 2001 we had the chance to catch up with former ECW Diva, Dawn Marie, and below is what came about during the Interview.
RHD: How did you get started in Wrestling?
DAWN MARIE: I had a deal with a poster company about 4 years ago to do four or five posters. They sent a man over to my house to sign some of the posters. The man's name was Jonathan Gold. He told me that he used to do some promotions for wrestling years ago. I was joking around with him and told him I would love to do that. I told him I could be like Ms. Elizabeth. (I was obviously not a fan because I could never be like Ms. Elizabeth) A few weeks later Jonathan called me and told me he had me booked on a show. I told him that I was only kidding, but he insisted that I went because he pulled some strings with friends. The rest is history.
RHD: What have you been doing since ECW ended?
DAWN MARIE: Simon and I have been working the Indies. We keep an updated schedule on our websites. DawnMarieECW.com or SimonDiamondECW.com Also, I have been training about four times a week learning how the wrestle.
RHD: What was it like training to be in the ring?
DAWN MARIE: Well, it is very challenging. But I love it. I wish I had the time years ago to learn what I am learning now. I feel that I am more conscious of where I am in the ring now that I am learning how to wrestle.
RHD: Do you consider yourself a wrestling Diva?
DAWN MARIE: NO... I really don't think of myself as anything. I just try to get better at what I do. If people fell that I am a Diva ... Thanks... It isn't up to me to decide that it is the fans decision.
RHD: What do you think about Vince McMahon buying WCW?
DAWN MARIE: I think it is great. As long as it is open people will have jobs regardless of who owns it. That is the most important thing. If Vince McMahon didn't buy it and it closed, think of all the talent that wouldn't have jobs. Not because of their lack of talent, just because there weren't any slots open.
RHD: Rumors are flying around you got a WWF contract, is there any truth to that rumor?
DAWN MARIE: No Comment.
RHD: What Kind of music or bands do you like?
DAWN MARIE: I like rock. mostly from the 80's
RHD: If you were not wrestle what else do you see yourself doing?
DAWN MARIE: Well, I was a biology major in college. So I would probably be some sort of scientist.
RHD: Name something that your fans probably don't know about you?
DAWN MARIE: I love to read and I love to just sit home and hang out with my dogs.
RHD: Is there anything else you would like to say?
