Interview with: Candie
In June 2001 Levi Jerome of The Diva Newsletter had the chance to catch up with Indie Diva, Candie.
Hello Candie, and thank you for the oppurtunity to e-mail a great wrestling valet and occaisianal wrestler like yourself. Now, on to the interview.
Levi: First question, how did you get involved in wrestling?
Candie: I have watched wrestling since I was about 6 years old and I wanted to be the next Miss Elizabeth. I heard about Bone Breakers Pro Wrestling Training Center from the Bruiser and the rest is history!!!
Levi: If you were a fan of the sport as a child, who were some of your favorites?
Candie: Without a doubt, Randy Savage and Miss Elizabeth. They were my top 2. I liked Hulk Hogan, just like every other kid in America. I was never big on women wrestlers when I was younger.
Levi: Was there anyone that you credit for inspiring you to do what you do now?
Candie: Wrestling wise, everyone I've met has inspired me to push myself further and further. My family has given me a great deal of support and I can't imagine having done any of this without them. I try to take the best from everyone I've met whether I met them through wrestling or just met them on the street... Ultimately, I am the one who pushes myself or holds myself back.
Levi: You aren't one of those women that is just a manager, and doesn't get involved in the action, I have personally seen you step up in the ring and take a few shots from some of the biggest and best in indy wrestling today. So my question is, did you originally want to be a wrestler, a manager, or did you want to be both from the beginning?
Candie: I signed up at Bone Breakers on November 26, 1999 and the first thing I told Danny and Mark (the owners/trainers) was "if I have to get in the ring, I don't want to do this". They were sure that I would change my mind and they were right. Initially, I had NO intention of getting into the ring. I described what I wanted to do as "walk a big, sweaty wrestler to the ring, pound the mat and walk him to the back when it's over" I had no idea how much fun I was missing!!!
Levi: How did you get your start in the business, did you meet a few wrestlers, or did you just wake up one day and decide to give it a try?
Candie: I met the Bruiser in high school and one day we bumped into each other again and he told me all about wrestling and how he got started... that was all I needed.
Levi: Where did you get your start in the business, where did you train, what federations did you first wrestle for?
Candie: I trained at Bone Breakers Pro Wrestling Training Center in Baltimore and they gave me my start with MCW. I have worked for Maryland Championship Wrestling, Atlantic Terror Championsip Wrestling (WVA), Future Wrestling Alliance (PA), The Wrestling Zone, G.L.O.O.W, Jersey All Pro, and W.E.W
Levi: Before your debut, where you nervous at all? What kind of thoughts were running around in your mind before you walked through the curtains for the first time?
Candie: I was horrified. I was doing a run in from the crowd at an MCW show so I had to sit through 3 matches trying not to throw up from nerves. Once Ronnie lifted me over the barracade I was just waiting to fall on my face or totally embarass myself. Thank God I didn't!!!
Levi: How long have you been in this business?
Candie: I started training 11/26/99 and my first MCW show was 1/19/00 Out of all the shows you have worked on, do you have any personal favorites, and what are your reasons for why they re your favorites? Well, the MCW locker room is like my family so those are probably my favorite shows. I know that whatever I do or have done in this business is all thanks to MCW.
Levi: I know you currently manage "Soda Pop" Ronnie Zukko, are there any other wrestlers that you have managed other than him?
Candie: Right now, my Ronnie is tagging with Romeo Valentino so I am currently managing the soon to be MCW tag team champs, other than that... I have managed Julio Dinero, Joey Matthews & Christian York, Qeenan Creed, and Don Montoya
Levi: What are some of your greatest acheievements in your wrestling career so far?
Candie: The fans voted me MCW Manager of the Year for 2000, Pro Wrestling Illustrated included me in their 100 Hottest Women in Wrestling Issue (currently available), I had the opportunity to wrestle Stacy Carter (a.k.a. Miss Kitty), and MCW has provided me the opportunity to meet and work with so many talented and great people like Jimmy Snuka, King Kong Bundy, Dawn Marie, Mikey Whipreck, and even Lita. My greatest achievements are yet to come I think.
Levi: Is there anything you would like to accomplish that you havent yet?
Candie: I still have a lot of training ahead of me!!! I just hope that I stay on the same track I've been on. Right now, I would just like to keep training and learn to be the best wrestler I can be.
Levi: Are there any wrestlers (male or female) out there that you havent wrestled yet, and you would like to?
Candie: I don't know. I think if I ever got near a wrestling ring with Lita I would start throwing up from nerves!!! I am up for any challenges as far as indy wrestling women go. I'm not big on wrestling men, I leave that to Ronnie!!
Levi: Who do you feel are the top wrestlers in the sport today?
Candie: I think Lita and HHH are two of the top wrestlers in the business. I also like Benoit, Edge, and the Hardys.
Levi: What would you be doing if you weren't involved in wrestling?
Candie: I'm not sure what I'd be doing but I know I would feel like something was missing. Wrestling is in my heart and I can't imagine my life is without it.
Levi: Who are some of your close friends that you have made in the wrestling business?
Candie: Ronnie (Zukko) is no doubt my best friend in this business. He knows me better than I know myself sometimes. Joey Matthews has been a good friend to me, he is an inspiration to me and makes me work for what I want. Danny (a.k.a. Corporal Punishment) has given me everything I have in this business and I will be eternally grateful he agreed to train the girl who didn't want to bump!! Alexis Laree is a new friend, but a great friend all the same. I know whatever mess I get myself into, she's got my Candie - ass : )
Levi: Out of all the people you have managed, wrestled etc. who do you enjoy working with the most?
Candie: Ronnie, no question about it. I think we have a terrific working relationship and he is one of those people that just knows what I'm thinking or feeling without me having to say a word. We have worked together since day 1 and I am so lucky to have him!!
Levi: What indy feds do you most often work for, so that the loyal readers here at Prowrestle.com can find out if and when the beautiful Candie will be coming to their town?
Candie: You can find out my complete schedule through the Maryland Championship Wrestling site. The 2 federations I work for most are MCW and G.L.O.O.W. Well, thats all the questions, so I'm afraid that this is the end.
Levi: If there are any fans, or promoters out there that are interested in contacting the lovely Candie, how can they do so? Do you have an e-mail address, web-page or something like that?
Candie: You can feel free to contact me via email at candiepop311@aol.com, the official web site is IWantCandie.com (it's under construction), and I do have MSN instant messenger... screen name is candiezukko@hotmail.com. I look forward to hearing from everyone. Thank you so much for inviting me to do this interview!! Love & kisses, Candie
